Belcalis Almanzar is a New York native, who grew up in the projects and is a former stripper. She gained a large social media following which garnered her popularity to make it to our tv screens and radios. And if you are like me, I tried so hard not to jump on the Cardi train, but the more I watched and listened, I saw something within her. You may not like her or her story but you can’t deny shes made major moves over the past year.
Here are four reasons why 2017 was the year of Cardi B.
1. She's getting that work. In 2015, Cardi appeared in the 6th season of VH1 Love & Hip Hop New York. She became a fan favorite quickly and at the end of 2016, she announced she was no longer appearing on the show, after only two seasons. It was a risky move, it paid off for Cardi. She has sense appeared in several tv programs, including ‘Being Mary Jane’ and is a staple on the interview/ entertain circuit. Cardi even partnered with M.A.C. For a special event in February 2017. What girls doesn’t love makeup!!?! Cardi took a gamble on leaving reality tv and it catapulted her to the next level. Could your career use a leap of faith?
2. She gets to play dress up Cardi was a major staple in 2017 New York Fashion Week. She showcased the beautiful gowns on her personal Instagram. Say what you want about Cardi, but what girls doesn’t want to step out in beautiful gowns and the nicest close on a regular basis, check out some of these dresses!
3. She got engaged. When we first met Cardi, she had was in a relationship with a dude named Tommy. We never saw Tommy, cuz he was in jail and was gonna be there for a while. Cardi spoke about their relational problems. It wasn’t long before Tommy was out the picture and Offset of ‘Migos’ was in. Even though both are in the mist of budding careers, we would still see them together. (Which shows that people make time for what they want *message*). Well in October 2017, during an concert in Philadelphia.
4.Bodak Yellow Cardi released her first mixtape in 2016 and a second one later in the year. In 2017, she signed a major deal with Atlantic Records and released ‘Bodak Yellow’ in February. No one can deny the catchy song is the song of 2017. The single was #1 on Billboard 100 for three weeks. Lauryn Hill in 1998, was the last time a female solo rapper claimed this position. So she’s making history, just by following her heart.
